NEW Lavender Cucumber Sage Soap

This Lavender Cucumber Sage Cold Process Soap was made with a blend of oils infused with lavender  petals and sage. Each batch contains an entire cucumber. These were naturally colored with the peels and spirulina. Lightly scented with lavender cucumber sage scent oil.

These large bars weigh about 5 oz each and are 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1" in size.

Cucumbers are effective when used for various skin problems, including swelling under the eyes and sunburn. They also contain ascorbic and caffeic acids. These acids prevent water retention. That may explain why when cucumbers are applied topically they are often helpful for swollen eyes, burns, and dermatitis.

4th Annual Silhouette of a Woman

I had the pleasure and the honor of being invited to participate in this amazing event this past Saturday night.  Great music, interesting and moving speakers and great food.  All for a wonderful cause that is one that is close to my heart having lost my mother to cancer over a year ago.  My grandmother was also a breast cancer survivor.  I'm hoping to be able to participate again next year.

Brown Sugar Honey Fig Shea Butter Goats Milk Soap is back

This soap is seasonal  since I usually only get two yearly harvests from my fig tree.  The bars weigh approximately 5 oz. each and are 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1" thick.

These were made with goatsmilk from my own goats, figs from my own fig tree (pesticide free), honey, brown sugar and a blend of proprietary oils including coconut and shea butter.

Between the goats milk, brown sugar, honey and figs these soaps are a dark brown.  These also have a pleasant warm brown sugar scent.  I have added a small amount scent oil to this batch to boost that wonderful natural fig and brown sugar scent.

The honey acts as a natural disinfectant and antifungal, a humectant to hold in moisture and also  boosts the lather, the brown sugar also boosts the lather and also adds a nice warm scent along with the figs. The honey, figs, shea butter, and goats milk are all great for your skin. These lather up nicely also and smell wonderful!

Figs are supposed to contain enzymes called (ficin) which is antioxidant-rich and revitalizes the skin by fighting the damaging effects of the sun and environment.

Saturday, August 6, 2016

I haven't participated in any events in the past month or so (mostly because of the insane heat this summer) but I will be in a couple of weeks starting with Sunday Afternoon in the Park in Mint Hill, NC.  I'm also considering a new venue I've found in the SouthEnd area of Charlotte, NC happening every Saturday evening.

To see where I'll be selling in person if you're in the Mecklenburg / Union county area, check out this site.  Etsy local is also great if you're a fellow seller/maker looking to find events in your area to participate in.

Etsy Local - Monroe, NC or
go to my Etsy shop page and scroll down past the "About Me" section to see only my events.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/boerbarn

I alway try to be sure to add all event dates and information via my Facebook page, Twitter feed and sometimes Instagram.

I'm considering adding another page to this site with this information as well.  I'm also considering setting up a biweekly or monthly newsletter containing news, upcoming events, new items, sales and coupons codes, etc.

Painted girls tank tops

Just finished these this morning.  The black ones were previously bleach tie-dyed and I then painted them with fabric paint.  The middle one was done with fabric paint and lace as a stencil.

I'll probably end up giving the black ones to a couple of munchkins who are scheduled to visit today.  😜

Healthier Substitutions

I know this isn't related to the stuff I make, well actually it kinda is because I cook everyday.  Anyhoo... Nothing to do with the stuff in my store but more to do with everyday life I suppose.  Thought I'd pass it along.
In reference to the Buzzfeed article below.  I do most of these already.  I've heard of the applesauce trick from my Mom and it works!  Ive made cupcakes and muffins with unsweetened applesauce instead of oil.
I'm definitely going to have to try the frozen banana ice cream.
You can also make amazing pancakes with a mashed banana, an egg and a dash of cinnamon.  I like to add dried cranberries.  Crushed pecans or walnuts are good.  I've also heard of substituting eggs for bananas but I haven't tried that.  I also use plain raw oatmeal in my meatloaf and Salisbury steak instead of bread crumbs.  Instead of breading and deep frying things, try panko bread crumbs and parmesan cheese and bake instead.  Nice and crispy with less fat.

New Reed Diffuser Sizes

I'd have to say the biggest seller in my Etsy store are the customizable reed diffuser sets and the refills.  You get a beautiful 8 oz glass jar which was imported from Spain.  You also get 10 rattan reeds, 3 oz of VOC compliant and DPG-free base oil and 1 oz of a scent oil of your choice.  The high quality scent oils are pthalate free.  All of them smell amazing.  I can provide links to MSDS sheets upon request.  All of the scent oils adhere to the RIFM and IFRA standards for safety and purity.

I want to announce that coming soon.... I'm going to test the waters and offer a smaller size.  The same great features as the original but in a smaller 4 oz size.  You'll get 1/2 oz. scent oil and 1 1/2 oz. of base and 5 reeds.  I'll also offer half size refills as well.  If these sell well enough I'll make them a permanent item in my store.  The original diffuser sets are currently selling for $15, the refills are $12.  I'm thinking offering the smaller 4 oz size at $10 for the diffuser sets and the refills at $7.

There are so many scent options to choose from and this list grows all the time.  If you can't decide which scent you want, I offer 5 sample sticks for $1 and free shipping.

If you don't need a pretty glass jar or you've already got one you can also get a refill set.

NEW Glow in the Dark Sparkle Jar Necklace

Just listed this morning. New glow in the dark jar necklace. The pendant is about 3" in length and is filled with glow in the dark paint and glitter. Don't worry, the cork has been secured with superglue so it shouldn't come off. There are pink and blue glass beads just above the jar.

Customizable Tree Necklaces

Don't forget, I make custom "Tree of Life" pendants.  These make great gifts and are customizable.  Use family birthstones for a "Family Tree"

This website is new.  The blog has been around a little while but now I've got my own domain and I'm working on setting up my own website.  This is a work in progress so bear with me.  Eventually, I'm hoping to have a fully functioning web store as well as a blog.

In the meantime, you can look at some of my current items on the page "Buy Cool Stuff Here".  Click on the link to go to my original Etsy store.  You'll need a Etsy account but its free to sign up for one.  Whether you buy anything from me or not, its well worth it.  :)   There are so many talented people there making things by hand that you can't find anywhere else.
